British triathlon star Lucy Buckingham and husband Mark announce baby joy

STRENGTH. ENDURANCE. PERFORMANCE.
Lucy Buckingham revealed in January how her big challenge of 2025 was going to be parenthood, and now it is here.
The 33-year-old, a three-time IRONMAN 70.3 winner and 2012 Olympian, has welcomed baby daughter Lily into the family.
Lucy, whose husband Mark is also a triathlete and leading coach, announced the news on her official Instagram page.
“Bundle of joy”
She posted: “Welcomed our little bundle of joy into the world on the 1st May.
“We didn’t find out the gender of Baby Bucko during the pregnancy, so it was a lovely surprise to add our little girl, Lily Buckingham to the family🥰.
“#newparents #babygirl #baby #may #generationbeta”

Buckingham, a member of the BMC Pro Triathlon Team, has struggled with injuries over the past few years. She suffered a potentially career-ending back injury in 2022 and was then hit by a car while leading IRONMAN 70.3 Bahrain in November 2023.
Her 2024 campaign was also curtailed by an ailment as she competed just twice on the T100 series before an MRI scan revealed a stress response in her lessor trochanter.
“Off the cards”
Now, for the time being at least, racing is “off the cards” for her, but she has already followed her husband Mark, who has worked with the likes of Billy Monger, into coaching, to “support the next generation of British athletes on their journey.”
Lucy first took up triathlon after watching her father race, competing in her first event at the age of just eight years old, and her love affair with the sport does not look like ending any time soon.
Everybody at TRI247 wishes Lucy and Mark the biggest congratulations and the most special of times with their new arrival.
